What We Do?
More than a book, less than a national taste guide.
Ukrainian culture is an authentic mixture of ancient Greek traditions, gorgeous Eastern streams and strong Western accents. Due to the unique geographic position, Ukraine has observed different tribes and nations trying to suggest or sometimes even impose their routines on these lands. But never on Earth have they succeeded. Either heydays or hard times – no matter – Ukrainian nation always keeps its features, spreading nevertheless an honorable attitude to all the rest.
So it is no wonder we want to share the unique time and gourmand proven 35 recipes of Ukrainian Pierogi with the others. This simple and universal national dish could be easily adoptable on any kitchen, to any taste.
Why we do?
Pierogi were like a well-known and still an absolutely new dish for us. But the more we dived into the origins, tastes and variants, the more sure we became. Pierogi is nothing but a silver bullet for all the hospitable homemade chefs. They are always a wonder, always a success and it really takes no more than 30 minutes to cook them.
Thus we’ve thought it over and created this very book with wonderful pictures of real dishes and precise recipes for people all over the world to feel the true Ukrainian taste and enjoy it the way we do.
When we do?
There is no appropriate time or special occasion to talk about cooking. It is something intimate, something people would like to keep in secret to be the only possessor of a culinary wonder. We knew the risks.
Although here we are with the first collection of really tasty, super looking and very personal 32 recipes of Pierogi. Hopefully, the readers will find their favorites while cooking this Ukrainian dish. Moreover, we are sure they will add a personal note to each of them.
That is why we’ve created this book nowadays when the real taste, natural aroma and a true story matter. The world has already discovered Ukraine as a small but strong spirited country, so we want to multiply this emotion from the gastronomic position. At least, the readers would try one of the prominent dishes of our cuisine as they could hardly imagine the visit.
The team
Big ideas are nothing without a big team. Ok, not big in size, but big in one spirit, one aim and of course diversity of professional skills. Our team is the union of insanely enthusiastic people, arguing about the common and agree about the different points of view. We are lucky to meet each other in this project. A writer, a photographer, a chef and a designer. Who we are really missing is our publisher. Hopefully, you’re the one.
Who we are?
My name is Aleksandr Slyadnev.
Being a member of The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers, one of 10 most interesting photographers of the planet according to authoritative 500px photo community and among 100 best food-photographers of the world according to The British Journal of Photography, I am also honored to be a fore-father and manager of FoodnChefs Project.
This is not a mere food blog. It is rather a place where I share the interviews and receipts, delicately collected from all over the world. I give the chefs that rare and unique opportunity to share their opinion about the tasty and nourishing cooking. As he is supposed to cook, not to talk. But my project unites both of them in a colorful story about the person hiding behind the kitchen door, but who really makes you happy and savoury smiling.
I’ve always loved experimenting in the kitchen, now do the same with my food photography classes in school. Born and raised in Ukraine, being a lawyer, I’ve been travelling to different continents to make the gastronomy traditions closer, taking and capturing another culture for the others.
This is my first cookbook of such format. The previous booklet project, The Odessa Kitchen Snacks, is published by Amazon and is available for any eBook. Learn more about it here.
My name is Alexey Shvets.
I am the chef and inspired creator of dishes, taste combinations and serving variants. I was only 24 when I started one big and very cool project. Being an ambitious man, I wanted all the best my life and my skills can offer. So I became a real chef with all the power and fails, and ruled the kitchen of a glamour restaurant. I’ve gathered my team, worked on the menu and rushed towards the new beginnings. Crazy rhythm, administrative routine and the undertaken obligations left very little time for creativity in my life. I lacked it a lot. And I’ve made a hard but deliberate decision to leave the chef position.
Today I am a host and practising chef of a culinary school GastroLab. I travel around the world in search for new knowledge and recipes, develop food-stylistics with Alex Slyadnev – a world famous photographer. I have time and I want to fill my life only with people, events and activities that will make it better. And I’m happy.
This is also my first cookbook of such format. Previously I was invited as chef to thousands of big and small projects. In a tight co-operation with Aleksandr I am also available for the recipe and menu development.
My name is Juliya Plokha.
The wording part was collected, wrapped and presented by Juliya Plokha. As a representative of an absolutely opposite side of the moon – IT area – she finds her inner self in speaking for the team. Making digits sing and too dry or too curvy phrases – readable is a hobby, becoming a real life destination all-in-one.
She is a mother and wife and always curious person in search of world wonders to share them with the rest.

Conclusion
Finally, we are sure everyone needs THE ONE recipe in their personal menu to fit every occasion, guest status or mood. Pierogi are not only Ukrainian national dish, but also a great donation to a kitchen comfort. They suggest variety of tastes, colors and aromas. And one more thing © – perfectly suit the philosophy that everything, that can be made in advance, should be. And Pierogi can be. Let’s tell everyone about them!
