Catholic Christmas is celebrated from the 24th to the 25th of December. It’s a family holiday, which is often performed at home with loved ones. But lots of families are selected before the meal to the city for a small promenade
Well, in principle, even more, not only the family and small group of young guys who are going out and having fun in a circle of the same young people.
I was lucky to visit two locations in Hong Kong, where Christmas is celebrated on the street.
Times Square on Causeway bay
A well-known area, which actually covers several blocks around, with lots of large and branded stores, often becomes a place of public festivals of Hong Kong.
Authorities organize various activities and this time on the roofs of skyscrapers were installed cannons with artificial snow. At some point, the music began, said something in Chinese into the microphone and snow sprinkles.
At this point, the area was transformed. Adults began to behave like children, children just enjoy such happy unprecedented exotic. Rare Europeans frowned and wondered this general euphoria.
But gradually the fun virus penetrated in even the most hardened skeptics and see a person without a smile became impossible.
Chinese generally able to have fun. They do it sincerely, returning this emotion with all the passion which they are capable.
No sullen hostility, while in Hong Kong it’s not at all in principle. Here, even if someone does not speak English, then in any case will do everything to help you. With a smile, joy, and so that you walk away with a good mood and positive emotions.
Everybody are happy and having fun, taking pictures.
At the same time, if you ask someone to take pictures, then the person will pose you as much as you need and doesn’t run after you, asking to send him pictures. If asked, then he needs.
There also are several points with a standard Hong Kong street food, delicious sweets and just with different specialties, which are bought in memory of this holiday.
After Times Square, I sat on the bus and went to the area of Lan Kwai Fong. It’s a small area, just few blocks, where focused pubs and nightclubs working up to morning.
The fact is that Hong Kong is dying after midnight. All the places, subway are closed. Stop going buses and ferries. And nightlife lives only in Lan Kwai Fong.
Therefore, if you want to have a blast in Hong Kong at night, then you should go straight in LKF. I have already described last year as Halloween passed in LKF. Basically, nothing has really changed except the scenery and some of the persons participating in the process.
Journalists work, standing in the laughing crowd of onlookers, who by way of turn are trying to get into the camera. Bars, on several levels, offering guests all sorts of leisure options.
Only this time, the whole process of public celebrations took control of the police, having fenced approaches to LKF, and completely eliminating the clutter in these festivities.
And the difference between staying in Times Square and in LKF is visible by the general mood of the crowd. If Times Square unbridled and enchanting fun, in LKF it is simply drive. Everyone drinks, but not drunk. Music is playing around, all flaunted in their best outfits and get to know each other.
Once in half an hour, police press walking crowd, those who haven’t yet or for some reason didn’t want to sit in one of the bars, in the neighboring streets and starts a new batch of people.
Such is the kind of camp with the regime. Drank? Go for a walk. There are those who wish, we can’t put all together, alas. Merry Christmas.
