Dumplings is a perfect dish for Christmas time. The whole family get together around the festive table and leisurely enjoy a meal while discussing the latest news.

There is a belief that it’s necessary to sit down to a table with the first star twinkle in the sky, while the number of dishes on the Christmas table predicts what a well-fed and rich year will it be.

Pierogi are not just Ukrainian national dish. Pierogi are like a star of international scale in the constellation of traditional recipes.

Pierogi with Pope

You’ll please even the pickiest guests. Variety of pierogi fillings will satisfy each and everyone!

There is also a tradition to cook Pierogi with small surprises inside, and it works as a kind of prediction. Thus, a coin predicts money, a nut stands for admirers and a button promises new outfits.

I have a recipe of dumplings with poppy. That sounds quite extravagant, doesn’t it? For those who like sweet Pierogi. As for surprises, to put or not, it’s up to you, but one thing I can predict for sure, it will taste delicious for sure.

Here’s one more recipe from our book that we created together with Aleksey Shvets ‘Pierogi. More than a Book, Less than a National Cuisine Guide’.
